I teach at an overcrowded, rural school in South Mississippi. Since Hurricane Katrina, more and more people have been moving away from the Coast and into the relative safety of our area which is about twelve miles away from the Gulf. Our school is over-flowing with children - which brings me to my needs. I am the reading interventionist. I work with small groups of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who are at least two years behind in reading ability and who have scored minimal on the MCT (Mississippi Curriculum Test). I share a rolling cart with the math interventionist. We move with our cart through the halls filled with students to various rooms where the teacher has a planning period, and we are able to use the empty room. The white boards are usually filled and cannot be used. I would like a rolling cart that has a folding white board to be used for instruction and space to put my students' books as well as a place to put the tape recorders that they use to record and listen to assess their reading ability. I want my students to feel that they have a place to put their things even if we don't have a room!
