Help me give my students the chance to read the book Unwind by Neal Shusterman! Unwind is the most engaging and exciting book I could read in my blended Language Arts and Social Studies class!
The students who I work with teach me so much every day. They lead discussions, collaborate, and excel as 21st Century learners. In my classroom, I strive to engage all of my students by providing them with relevant and authentic learning opportunities.
My students are leaders and they bring their best to the classroom every day.
It is my job to inspire in them a love of learning that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. Middle school is hard, and I want to do my part to make it a little bit better for my students.
My students won't give up their organs and neither will Connor, Risa, and Lev! In America after the Second Civil War, the Pro-Choice and Pro-Life armies made a compromise that says between the ages of thirteen and eighteen a parent of an unwanted or unruly child can get rid of the child through a process called "unwinding." This means they must donate all of their organs! Unwind tells the story of three teens trying to avoid being unwound. It is a captivating book that will inspire deep discussions in and out of the classroom.
This book can make even the most reluctant reader beg to read; it is filled with suspense, action, and plot twists!
This novel is perfect for teaching so many different lessons in the classroom. My students will use this book to review all the elements of a story. We will study characters, conflicts, plot, mood, tone, vocabulary, figurative language, and point of view. We will also use this book to introduce the United States Constitution. We will debate different hot topic Constitutional issues. We will also learn how the Constitution was written and how amendments are added. Donating these books to my classroom is like giving me the gift of fully engaged and excited readers because I know they will love this story.
Reading Unwind in my classroom this year would dramatically change our classroom discussions. We would be able to debate really complex and even controversial issues in society today and throughout history. This book makes students question their ethics and morals; it is thought-provoking and easy to relate to. This is a book that has the power to inspire a love of reading in my students!
