Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the greatest group of five and six year-olds. With high energy levels and enthusiasm, my class always comes to school so eager to learn. My class is very diverse with some families being more fortunate than others.
The twenty-five students in my class have varying walks of life, but together, we have created one community.
Kindergarten is often my students' first year of school. It is so crucial to build their excitement toward learning and encourage them to achieve great things in the classroom.
My Project
My students come from a lower income area where they do not always have the best home life. Five-year-olds can only take care of themselves to a certain extent but unfortunately, that does not include providing food or snacks when home. It is truly astounding the number of students who consume their only meals at school. At my school, free breakfast is provided for all students, and those students who qualify will receive free or reduced lunch. The number of kindergarteners that come in and say that their stomach hurts because they are hungry is heart breaking. This project will allow me to have some healthy and substantial snacks on hand that can be put into their book bag for when they are hungry and do not have to be cooked or prepared since they are young.
