This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students in my class are mostly Hispanic. English is their second language and most of them are first-generation Americans. Many of their parents cannot speak English or can only speak very little.
These students are smart, but better resources will help them reach their full potential.
Many of the children come from low to middle-class households. Their families usually have multiple children and that makes money a little scarce. The children are all hardworking and they are very smart.
My Project
Many parents read or tell fairy tales to their children when they are young. Small children enjoy hearing about princesses and dragons and superheroes. However, many parents don't realize that young children also enjoy nonfiction books.
Many children's only exposure to our amazing world is through books.
These books have clear and colorful pictures that would allow my students to learn more about heroes in history. They could enjoy the excitement of different sports and skills of different athletes. They can even explore the wonders of outer space. English Language Learners could build their vocabulary with books about their community and the world around them. Nonfiction books can open up a whole new world for them.
