This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 2nd graders who are eager to learn. Our community of learners have access to various materials and being that we are a Bring Your Own Device school, students have access to a multi-faceted curriculum that integrates technology throughout the day.
We integrate technology and Quality Plus Teaching Strategies such as communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking daily.
Students have many opportunities to engage with meaningful tasks. Students spend a lot of time collaborating and working on projects. They are also encouraged to use their own creativity and individuality within the classroom.
My Project
It is critical in this day and age that students learn how to extract information from text. As early as first grade students are beginning to read nonfiction texts to learn about new topics.
Scholastic News is a current, weekly, high-interest student newspaper that provides students with worldwide relevant news stories.
These magazines offer teachers digital resources to help motivate and instruct students in becoming better readers. Students will learn various reading strategies and work on comprehension while enjoying learning about new places and things.
I look forward to making Scholastic News a part of our weekly reading. I am sure this will motivate my students.
