Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are outgoing and excited to try new things. They love coming to school seeing their friends and teachers. My school is an alternative placement that services students with a range of disabilities including Emotional Disabilities and Severe Intellectual Disabilities.
They are challenged daily with communicating their wants and needs and overcoming social barriers.
Although my students have diverse needs, they are expressive and engaged in learning. They are capable of learning the skills needed to engage with the community and at home. They are a group of hardworking individuals who deserve the most!
My Project
My students thrive on using assistive technology for communication and accessing the general curriculum. They are unable to communicate verbally and require modifications throughout the classroom. They are excited to engage in math and reading interactive websites. They are, however, unable to navigate tools on a typical computer. The mouse and keyboard are difficult for them to use with fidelity.
The Fire tablets will be used for students to navigate through reading and math interactive websites through touch.
Students will be able to engage in interactive websites that will build skills with numbers, letters, and basic number sense. The tablets will give them access to the websites typical students are interacting with on a daily basis. No mouse, no problem...tablets will do the trick!
