it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hola, soy la maestra de musica. Our music program serves K-5 classes with 30 minutes of instruction a week, offers two middle school band classes, a high school band, and a piano keyboarding class for alternative ed high school students. There was no music last year, and it has been fun and crazy year so far for me, meeting students and families, hunting through closets for supplies, figuring out repairs, and designing the new music program. The progress this year would not have been possible without support from generous and caring donors.
About 90% of our students are on free and reduced lunch, in this farming community.
90% of band students rely on the district to provide the instruments and their maintenance. 10% of students own instruments, and no students rent them.
The students have had a great year so far, playing in concerts, festivals, and even recording at a professional studio. They are ready for their next challenges. Thank you for checking out our project! Muchas gracias!
My Project
The piano room was completely empty when we got it in January, and now that we have dusted off all the equipment we could find in the closets around the school, we are ready to fill in the gaps that will make the room fully functioning. Cords, a mic and basic office supplies will help the piano lab come to life!
In band, the percussion section has to often skip parts because we don't have the equipment, or they have to use an elementary school version of their instrument.
Middle school and high school students are ready to put away the toys, and get their hands on professional equipment.
