My students need choices of where to sit and do classwork. These choices will help to elevate student engagement. Portable lap desks, various cushions, and portable reclining seats will help my students focus and be comfortable.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a Title I campus with about 90% of students who are economically disadvantaged. I am a collaborative first grade teacher with 19% students identified with special needs. My families want what is best for their child and help me build a stable relationship with them.
My students come to school with a smile on their face and eager to learn.
We are constantly moving around the room because movement is good on the brain. They like to work in many different spaces. Many like to lay on the floor and use clipboards while others rather stand at a table. I would like to provide them with a variety of learning spaces to help increase motivation, engagement, academic performance, and behavior.
My Project
I find myself completing class work at different spaces in the room. One day I may be sitting on the floor to work on a project. Another day, I could relax in a chair while working on a laptop. The lap desks and various seating items will provide different options for children to complete their classwork. These new items will help mold a more flexible classroom.
Flexible classrooms help students collaborate, communicate, and participate in critical thinking.
It gives students an opportunity to learn what space works best for them. This gives them a feeling of empowerment since they have choice of where to sit.
This project will help my students stay engaged while being comfortable all at the same time. They will have a positive and fun experience with flexible seating.
