My Project

My students are hilarious, loving, sassy, hormonal, and they stink. This is what I love about them! They deserve the world and so much more. About 90% of my students live in the inner-city of Flint. So, you can imagine the things they go without to meet the needs of everyday life.

Creating hygiene baskets (filled with the requested supplies) for each student to take home will lessen some of the ridicule many students face.

Sixth grade is such a critical age. Student's bodies are developing along with their hormones. Many do not have the ability to get the proper supplies they need. I'm much more than a teacher. I care about their wellbeing and emotional needs.

These supplies will make an impact by putting the focus on learning, not so much the appearance or smell of another. I have developed relationships with my students to the point that we are able to talk to one another about hygiene and taking care of ourselves. It would mean the world to me if I could provide items to my children that some take for granted.
