My elementary art classroom is a safe and welcoming space for imagination, creation, and exploration. In my classroom, my students are challenged to problem solve, work together, and to explore their interests and ideas. My students have opportunities to gain confidence in themselves as they create art, and to connect with others and the community around them as the learn about and create art. In art, we learn to respect ourselves and others.
My students are eager artists; they love exploring new ideas and materials in art class.
They appreciate opportunities to be themselves and bring their ideas to life through art. My students come from diverse backgrounds, with almost 20% of our families being economically disadvantaged. When students are in my classroom, they are all given opportunities to succeed. Some of my proudest moments as an educator have have been seeing my students succeed and gain confidence that extends far beyond their art education. I love watching their eyes light up when they discover something new or accomplish something unexpected.
Our art room chairs need soft sliding and sound silencing tennis balls and felt caps to cover the chair feet to prevent loud and unpleasant screeching noises when chairs are moved around. The felt caps easily snap onto the bottoms of the chair legs and the students will have a much easier time gliding their chairs without the ear splitting sound of the chair legs dragging against the floors.
The kids will be able to transition more calmly and quietly with the benefit of the added noise reduction.
This will also benefit students with auditory sensitivities feel more comfortable and at ease in our classroom. Our younger students will be able to more easily glide the heavy chairs instead of dragging and scootching the cumbersome chairs in to position to get comfortable while working on their art. In addition to boosting student independence, and reducing abrasive sounds, the tennis balls and chair leg pads will also help protect our classroom floors!
