This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend Jack E. Singley Academy in Irving, Texas, one of the most diverse cities in America. Even though most of my students are second-generation immigrants and approximately 70% of them qualify for free or reduced-price meals, they have challenged themselves by enrolling in AP Physics 1! My students are creative, curious and love learning.

However, even though they study and work hard, they tend to struggle on the new AP Physics 1 exam due the exam's rigor and emphasis on inquiry-based investigations.

My Project

My AP Physics 1 kids engage in many inquiry-based investigations involving mechanics that are required by College Board. They use a variety of engaging and fun, hands-on activities to master the concepts that will allow them to be academically successful. They make extensive use of Vernier probes that allow them to collect and analyze real-time data about the motion of objects in the classroom.

Unfortunately, over the years some of our Vernier LabQuest Minis and Motion Detectors have been dropped and "abused" in various ways that have made them no longer work... We are in need of a few replacements to ensure that my all kids have access to the lab equipment they need in order to be successful!
