My students are a very diverse group. They come from different backgrounds and beliefs. Some kids have access to technology and some don't have it at home. With the rise in the knowledge of technology for current jobs, all students need to know how to be tech savvy.
With Arizona being 49th in state funding, it is very difficult to give all students what they need.
In order for our students to compete in the job market, they must be exposed to and be able to solve problems. They need inquiry based problem solving skills. They must be confident, knowledgeable in the forever changing technology, and be able to solve tasks using design thinking. Our school is implementing STEM this year to meet the needs of a 21st century learner. Through STEM, students will be challenged daily to solve problems using science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The STEM activity kits will help students achieve the learning objectives and standards for engineering.
Students are learning to organize their desks, notes and learning area. Having the chair back storage will help them locate their assignments, writing tools, etc. quicker which will give us more time to learn. We are learning that there is a place for everything and this will be the "home" to their homework binders (agendas), whiteboards, markers, etc. Being organized helps organize our minds and our thoughts. A messy desk can distract the learning and takes time out of our day. We need more time on task and implementing these chair back storage will help us build our organizational skills.
