My students need lots of games and activities to stay interested in Math. Many students come to me saying "I Hate Math!" or "I'm not good at Math!" It's my challenge to change their minds.
My students want to get their hands on their learning! They are learning challenging material and often get frustrated trying to learn only from a textbook. Our school lacks the budget and the materials for projects and supplemental classroom materials to help me reach the most struggling students.
We are excited to use our collaboration and problem-solving skills to build and create, calculate, evaluate, and learn outside of the box!
My students keep very busy in their everyday lives. They love to play sports and help in their community. They are used to being on the move and learning from technology and real-life experiences.
As I change the Math curriculum to a Guided Math model, it will be required that I use more games and hands-on activities.
My Project
These math activities and games will help my students remain interested while learning their math standards.
These materials will also enable me to teach in a Guided Math model where students rotate between activities and see me in a small group each day.
Children today have been conditioned to be entertained inside and outside of the classroom. It is difficult to create my own games and activities that will keep students engaged. It is my hope that I can meet students' individual needs better in a small group if the rest of the class is focused, entertained, and learning with other activity centers.
