AIS is in its first year of existence this year. Our entire school is made up of 6th-grade students from all over the city of Aiken. Students at AIS come from a wide range of economic backgrounds and circumstances, and the band is a class where every student works together as a team regardless of their background.
My students are members of the very first Aiken Intermediate School Band program, and we are currently missing a few basic necessities to help them reach their full potential.
We are a new band program in a previously existing building, and our current supplies have been well-loved and are reaching the end of their life-span.
Music is a wonderful tool to help children with self-expression and critical thinking skills, and band is a great way for students to help create and sustain positive relationships with their peers.
My Project
My students do not have desks in my classroom, so many of them struggle to complete their written work in a comfortable setting.
These students will use these clipboards at their seat to make up for not having desks in the band room.
A class set of clipboards will stay in the room, and students will be able to come to class and grab a clipboard on their way to their chair.
The markers will facilitate in questioning students and seeing a quick response around the room. Students will be able to mark on whiteboards that are lined with the musical staff to practice writing music.
