Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach middle school Special Education. My students have moderate to severe needs. I work with students who have Autism, Down Syndrome, and Intellectual Disabilities. All of my students are great and very eager to learn each day.
My students focus on daily living skills and community-based instruction.
We take public transportation and go into the community to shop for groceries. My classroom has a full kitchen so our lessons include cooking along with functional academics.
This is my second year teaching and I love it! I want my students to be included in as many fun activities as possible.
My Project
Each day my students practice activities like washing dishes, wiping tables, and sweeping. They are getting so good at these tasks I want to add new ones to our lists.
I would love for my class to start practicing using a vacuum.
We would work on safety while using tools that get plugged in, how to safely store cleaning tools, and how to properly use them. My students would be so excited to use the Eureka Vacuum and help clean our space.
I would also like them to have a working mop. We currently have a Swiffer Mop and my students love it! However, it has done its job and needs to retire.
