This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Each day I have the great privilege of teaching fourteen three- and four-year-old students. Through play we learn math and literacy content, but also important language and life skills. We learn to communicate our needs, build enduring friendships and be proud of who we are and who we are becoming.
We are a tight-knit HeadStart classroom located in a public school in the southeast quadrant of Washington, DC.
The community surrounding our school has many needs. Yet in spite of their challenges, my students arrive each day eager to learn, create and prepare for the wider world.
My Project
We are requesting a variety of board games and building sets. These board games will be used in our centers to teach students many different skills. While playing each of these games, students will learn to take turns, count, recognize numerals and identify colors.
Playing games is a fun way to practice these important skills.
With the building sets we will continue playing together as we learn patterns and colors. The bristle builders will help develop our fine motor muscles as we manipulate the pieces to make different things. The tabletop blocks will expand our play in several different centers. In our pet/vet theme, we'll use our blocks to make fences for our pretend pets, while in our grocery store theme, our blocks may become pretend packages of food. These materials will be used in countless ways this school year and for many years to come.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Mrs. Wozniak and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
