This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Even though our classroom is pretty neat and clean, an air quality inspector told us that our classroom is storing allergens.
I teach a group of twenty-four first-grade students in one of the cities with the highest crime in the nation.
All students at my school site receive a free lunch. 97% of my school's student population is Hispanic, most of them first generation Americans. School is one of the only places in which my students interact with someone who speaks academic English. Living and attending school in a highly impoverished urban setting, my students are not exposed to many educational experiences outside of the classroom. Given this information, exposing my students to different learning manners while keeping them engaged and entertained is highly important to me.
My Project
After having a large number of students with asthma, my classroom was tested to see if it was a healthy environment and therefore adequate for student learning. It turns out that it is not. With all the seasonal materials being stored above the closet, there is not a lot of cleaning happening there. I was asked to store everything in plastic containers that could easily be dusted. I recently placed many items in plastic bags and newer cardboard boxes, some plastic containers but I want to eventually have everything organized in plastic containers.
Please help my students have a dust-free, healthy environment that can further promote their education.
The plastic containers will allow us to have an organized classroom that can be easily dusted.
