Help me give my students books that they can read. The lower reading level that was holding them back would no longer create a barrier to reading group access!
My students are absolutely crazy in the most delightful way. They are full of ideas and passion, but don't have the literacy skills to communicate their passions or learn more about their areas of interest.
These students spend the majority of their day in classrooms where the materials presented are not accessible to them because of specific learning disabilities.
They are eager to learn, and I am eager to teach them. The only thing we have to lose is our chains.
My Project
My students are 6th graders who are reading at primary levels. They rarely have opportunities to interact with texts with which they can be successful.
These books would give them an opportunity to have access to books that are at their reading level, and also an opportunity to participate in reading groups with other students that are reading at similar levels.
It means so much to them to have an opportunity to show what they can do, instead of having the the focus be on what they can't do.
These books will help my students develop positive associations with learning, reading, and school!
