Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students consist of 21 elementary school children during the school day and various fourth and fifth-grade students in my after-school programs who always come to school with smiles on their faces and continue to make me laugh. They come from various backgrounds and some have limited opportunities due to financial means.
My students love to be at school, love to learn, have fun, and appreciate verbal praise as well as working toward earning rewards in the classroom.
In addition, they love to do one thing the most, free write.
My Project
My fourth grade students have a very exciting up coming school year. Through previous grants, I was able to get my students funding in order to go on two school field trips. One is to the Brookhaven Lab and the other is to an aquarium in which most of my students would not be able to visit without this funding we received. Tie dying tee shirts will allow for two things. One, these shirts will boost students excitement for these events and two, distinguish ourselves from other teams. When students wear these shirts it will also allow them to see what being a part of a team is all about.
Students will also wear these shirts at various STEM challenges that we will participate in between our classes and other classes, including during field day.
In order to make tie dying educational, my plan is to use these materials within a financial literacy lesson. Students will have to "purchase" materials using money manipulatives and budget the amount of rubber bands, tie dye sprays and gloves needed.
