Relationships at our school are strong. We often see our children grow from preschoolers to second graders (our school grades are preschool up to second grade). Our school is special because many times we'll teach siblings and cousins of our students throughout the years.
Diversity is what makes our classroom special.
Our children speak Spanish, English, and a combination of the two. Many of our children are immigrants or have parents who are immigrants. Some have been in foster care. Almost all live at or below the poverty level, with 92% of children qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Many experienced or are experiencing trauma in their lives.
All children deserve to be ready for kindergarten. Studies show that children who enter kindergarten "ready" are more likely to attend school, perform well on achievement tests, graduate from high school, and even earn more money as adults. Our program helps children from challenging backgrounds become ready for Kindergarten. Yet we have $325 to fund everything from art supplies to books to field trips. We want our children to have everything they need to be successful in their lives.
My Project
My goal for this project is to provide cleaning supplies and hygienic materials to keep my students healthy. With so many of my students living in multi-family and multi generational homes, our exposure risk is very high. To mitigate this, It's so important that we keep our classroom clean and hygienic so students enter and leave our classroom clean and symptom free!
My goal is to have a clean and COVID free classroom so children can come to school ready to learn and so parents have the peace of mind that their children are being protected even when they’re not around!
I plan to use a thermometer to check my student’s temperature each morning. I plan to provide each child their own mask, hand sanitizier, hand soap, and disinfectant wipes. With the right supplies we will be prepared to meet our health goals so that we can focus on our ultimate goal of Kindergarten-Readiness!
