Help me give my students flexible seating in the classroom. They love to be able to choose where to sit and what to sit on while they are doing their work.
My students are always searching for opportunities to learn. We work to grow and nurture our students, teaching them to persevere and work together in a collaborative community. We want them to be socially, emotionally, and academically resilient. They will learn to persevere without a fear of failure.
My class consists of 20 amazing students ready to learn.
We are a Title 1 school meaning that a significant percentage of our students are from low income families and receive free or reduced cost lunch. My students include three English learners and five resource students. I want all of my students regardless of obstacles to be able to do persevere without a fear of failing.
My Project
The materials that I am requesting would give my students a chance to choose where they sit while doing their work. We do both math and reading 'stations'. Between stations, they choose different places to sit to read, listen to stories, or to do math activities. This will give them other choices besides a pillow, the carpet, or even the hard floor.
When kids have choices, they take more of a responsibility for their learning.
I would love to give them more choices. This also gives students who are struggling to sit still, a way to wiggle without distracting others in the classroom. This project will make a huge impact on my students, in my classroom and in the learning that takes place there.
