This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The art room is a place to learn how to be a creative thinker, how to train the mind to think outside the box. My classroom is not quite a well oiled machine, but for a middle school it is pretty extraordinary. With the capability to have choices and options in our class, we will have no boundaries!
My classroom is full of diversity, about 80% of the schools population has come to America from other countries.
I teach students who are from the Middle East, south east Asia, and even some African counties. There are many cultures and traditions all rolled into our close knit community. The students and teachers and community are very into sports and extracurricular activities such as choir, and orchestra. I have students who speak unbroken English, and I have students who I am teaching words on a daily basis, because they just came to America. It is a unique and interesting community to be a part of. I am very lucky to be a teacher to these kids!
My Project
My students will be using the new acrylic and watercolor paint in my art class for their choice projects. Students will use the wide variety of colored pencils to add to their drawing knowledge. They also need a variety of paper to be able to use these paints and pencils on. I assign the students as their last project of the semester, a choice in the content and materials and they have the opportunity to try new things. It is a fun yet challenging project for the students, and with more options for supplies, they can broaden their knowledge and horizons.
Donations towards this project will encourage students to always reach for the stars, and never set boundaries on their dreams.
Having more paint options will open doors to learn about artists and methods that we can emulate and learn through doing ourselves.
