Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Title I teacher and athletic coach in Texas. Being a Title I school, most of our students come from low-income households. They, unfortunately, do not get much support from home as some of their parents simply cannot help them.
Most recently our school and community were hit hard by Hurricane Harvey.
We have students who are still displaced, and some just now getting back into their homes. Our athletes are utilizing their chosen sport as an outlet to get away from the hardships they have gone through.
My Project
This project is to add additional items I previously got funded tutorial rewards program. I have started a tutorial rewards program for our department and so far it has been a huge success. If my students come in for tutorials to either catch up on work or get extended help they will get rewarded. They have to attend a certain number of tutorials during the week and then they are rewarded with game time at the end of the week. So far the results have been great. Not only are more kids showing up for tutorials that never have before, but they are also seeing the value in the tutorials. But we do need a few more gaming stations in order to help keep up with the increase in students showing up for this reward program.
This project allows my students to be rewarded with fun activities and games.
In this project is an extra Nintendo Switch console. This is a fun gaming system that our kids will love. Plus several games that all mys students will love to play.
The games in this project include Pokken, The Legend of Zelda, Sonic, Gear Club, Fifa 18, Farming Simulator, and Monster Jam. These games are fun and will allow my students to be rewarded for working hard and showing up for tutorials.
Also included in this project are extra Switch accessories. These include extra battery packs, starter kits, chargers, and wheels for racing games. These accessories will help keep a longer battery on the switches, plus keep them charged when battery starts to get low.
Already we have more students showing up for tutorials than we ever have before. Which is exciting, because my students need the extra time for help or to simply finish or make up work.
