Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

While schools are filled with thousands of books, there are not many that teach social, emotional, and behavioral skills to students. In our "Cubs' Den," our school's sensory and wellness room, students from kindergarten through 5th grade come to us to problem solve, learn calming and regulation skills, build social skills, and receive guidance and support in building friendships, manners, and understanding their own mental/emotional health concerns.

Our little learners need books that teach them about feelings, emotions, leadership, empathy, and problem solving in fun, developmentally appropriate, and engaging ways!

We are excited to have these resources to help our students understand anxiety, feelings, anger, being brave, life skills, and communication.

These books will be a wonderful addition to our SEL "library." We love having books on hand to read to students and loan to teachers that support and enhance SEL. Engaging books with fun characters, such as Nervous Ninja, Growth Mindset Ninja, Anxious Ninja, and Angry Ninja, create a connection for students to the learning material within the books.

In addition to these awesome SEL books, we need additional guides and activity books to assist our staff in teaching these different concepts. Our students need hands-on activities, discussion starters, and staff who are equipped with the tools to teach kids about a variety of feelings and topics that are relevant to our students' lives and needs. It is often challenging for staff to teach complex topics without the appropriate resources. When we have the tools to educate our students, we also educate ourselves and become a better resource for our school and community.
