My students need these research and reference books, modeling clay, paints, crayons and cardstock to design their models of space as viewed from the moon.
Creativity is intelligence at play.--Albert Einstein. Our school has been sponsoring "Night of 1,000 Stars" for over ten years. This program ties art and literature together. Recently, we have incorporated science into this adventure. Reaching STEM
qualifications is our goal.
Our students come from a mainly rural area.
Many of our students qualify for special services to help encourage and support educational goals. We have a multicultural and multilingual population which includes Latino, Greek, Pacific Islander, and Native American. Our students are inquisitive and curious about discovering how the world works. Merging science into our art and literature program unifies the learning processes.
My Project
Our students, after researching, reading, and observing the sun, moon, earth, and their relationships to each other, will create poetry describing their knowledge, thoughts, and feelings about these relationships. They will then be able to make a moonscape with craters and mountains. They will design the space they imagine, detailing it with different mediums to represent the different molecular composition of objects in space.
This project allows students to bring their parents to the school and share with them what they have been learning.
This project helps tie students, parents, teachers, and other community members together in a common goal of integrating many skills and talents for a foundation for successful citizens. With the use of observation, research, writing, modeling, designing, communicating, and presenting, our students can set and obtain the goals they set.
