This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from Southeast of Houston, Texas, a place known for factories, gangs, and poverty, however Southeast Houston is a beautiful community of love and culture. My students care about their community and are empathetic towards the world around them. Many of them haven't experienced the world but hunger for knowledge and opportunities to experience life and different cultures. My students inspire me, motivate me, and push me to be the best person, teacher, mentor and I thank them for that every day. My students have so much potential to do great things and I will do my part to see them grow and become all that they can be.

My Project

My classroom would benefit from copies of Elie Wiesel's Night because we are limited in books available for all students in 9th grade. A major unit in our 9th grade year is social justice. Night is a great book to engage students and have them interested in reading and learning. Many students are moved by Night and can make connections between social issues taking place today. It is also a great novel for cross-curricular learning between English and Social Studies/World Geography. The text is suitable for 9th graders and aligns with the 9th grade curriculum. Help our class get books!
