Do you remember what it was like the very first time you played your first instrument in your music class? It was probably the recorder or the keyboard, right? My students have not yet discovered that joy of playing any instruments, but they have also not had any instruments to play.
Welcome to my music room!
Students in kindergarten through fifth grade have a terrific time learning the basics of music from understanding simple rhythms using ta, ti-ti, and rest, to being able to read actual music, singing, and playing instruments such as the drums (buckets), recorders, etc. and working together as a team in small ensembles. The music program is a new program; therefore, it depends heavily on financial support in being built. Having music ring through the halls of any school, especially this particular one after a period of no music for 5 years opens numerous doors for my students in our rural, high-poverty area. They get to express themselves through participation in singing and playing various instruments, go on trips, participate in music workshops, and show their pride through various performances. It is my desire to have all of the students in our school to have the opportunity to play an instrument, such as the C Major Diatonic Scale set of
This set of boomwhackers is a fantastic start to music making fun that is perfect for the beginning music student learning the musical alphabet, especially those students in grades kindergarten through second grade. The boomwhacker is light to the touch, hollowed tube-like structure allows students to learn and better understand the musical alphabet, pitch, dynamics, and is easy to use all through a slight tap to the hand. Playing the boom whackers will build muscle memory in the students’ hands in preparation to playing more difficult instruments, gaining further interest in music, which could lead to student scholarships, allowing students to have better chances to get into college. Students are taught how to care for the instruments, prevent damage, and that honor comes after hard work and teamwork. It is delightful to see the expressions on the students’ faces after they have mastered the musical alphabet, understand various things about pitch and dynamics, and is able to play their very first concert.
