Help me give my students the opportunity to build individual Architectural models during the pandemic by including a Mitre Box and Saw as well as Modeling Clay in their individual modeling kits.
Students enrolled in Civil Engineering and Architecture are high school juniors and seniors from the West Ada and Kuna School Districts. These ambitious students learn the importance of both form and function through the humanities-leaning architecture ideas and the analytical civil engineering lessons. Students earn concurrent credit for University of Idaho’s ARCH 151 (Intro to the Build Environment) and many also successfully complete the Revit Certified User test.
My Project
Each year students in Civil Engineering and Architecture class love creating physical models of the residential housing styles we study. Normally students design and build architectural models in small groups in the classroom, sharing tools and supplies. Unfortunately, group work is challenging this year due to the pandemic and there is a chance students will be learning remotely when it comes time to build models.
My goal is to set up each student with architectural modeling supplies and a tool kit they can keep.
This will allow each student to build his or her own model, and ideally students will be inspired and equipped to continue designing and building after this project is complete.
I am requesting funding for the purchase of the mitre box and saw along with clay as these are key missing components to the modeling kits I am compiling. The completed kits will also include the following: grass turf, miniature trees and shrubs, foam board, craft knife, architect’s scale ruler, velum, grid paper, balsa and basswood, paint and brushes, metal ruler, scissors, glue, and a drafting eraser.
