My students are doing their best to continue with the learning we have been doing in early March. I am working closely with the parents of my 4th grade students to make sure they get the best education possible.
At the moment, we try to meet daily during zoom sessions.
We are covering the academic subject areas, but feel that more needs to be done to address social-emotional needs.
I would like to spend time each day with my students on Zoom addressing their social-emotional needs. During this time we need to build a sense of community, and also have some fun at the same time!
Through powerful literature, I can have the students imagine their own possibilities.
I will read stories about innovation and creation, such as the Book, "The House That Cleaned Itself: The True Story Of Frances Gabe's (Mostly) Marvelous Invention" by Susan Romberg.
I also want to read books which highlight the value of diversity. I want students to see and learn about diverse groups and to understand that it is OK to be different. The book "Each Kindness" by Jacqueline Woodson is about trying to fit in and making new friends and how challenging that can be for children. We need to continue our journey of building empathy in this world.
