Next Generation Science Needs To Be Hands-on!

My students need first grade science kits that are aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards so that they can have hands-on science experiences!

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students attend a low income, low performing school in the Southwest region of D.C. They are in first grade and with limited budgets, we do not always get to have the technology and materials that we need for our students to be most successful. My students are eager to learn and ready to reach for the stars. They just need the necessary materials in order to get there! If they had what they needed, who knows what they could be capable of!

My Project

Even though STEM is the new buzz word in education, we have not yet seen school budgets be adjusted to include funding for science materials in classrooms. As a math and science teacher, I want to be able to put concrete science materials into the hands of my first graders on a daily basis. This is the way that they are going to learn this material and foster a love for science that they will carry with them throughout their educational career. I am asking for complete science kits for each of our new units that are tied to the Next Generation Science Standards. This includes a kit for engineering, light and sound waves, the moon and the sun, as well as life science. These materials will help my students fall in love with science!
