Chemistry can be fun! Hands-on learning in chemistry makes science fun and opens up a world of new inquiries.
My Students: Science is all about discovery and interaction.
I refuse to let my students think chemistry is just another boring science course. I can't wait for them to dive into more laboratory activities.
My students come from a variety of different backgrounds. Situated in the Central Valley in California, we have students from agricultural, oil, and business families all mixed together. My students come from a varied socioeconomic status but perform at the highest levels. Our school is among the top 10% of high schools nationwide. My students love hands-on learning of science that helps them to discover and explain the phenomena they see around them every day.
My Project
I am requesting 30 spectroscopes and spectral tubes to engage students in learning about atoms. By each student having a spectroscope it will allow for more precise analysis of atomic emission spectra of a variety of different elements and compounds. By incorporating the atomic emission spectra laboratory activities into my classroom, students will have hands-on experience with laboratory activities previously not available.
In chemistry laboratory activities are essential to motivate students to learn and increase students' understanding of chemistry. Laboratory activities help to instill a desire to understand science in students. Without laboratory activities chemistry is just another boring science class that doesn't impact students' lives.
Students learning about science through hands-on experiences will encourage my students to continue to question what they see around them.
By encouraging hands-on discovery now, they can learn the tools to become lifelong analytical thinkers and lifelong discoverers.
