My Students
My students really like to move around a lot while learning, and that's what I want. My group is a sweet and bright bunch that attends a Title I school. We use whole brain teaching strategies that keep us all moving while learning throughout the day. We have choice seating where students are allowed to choose where to work: sofa, wobble chairs, crate seats, yoga balls, etc. I want my students to feel comfortable and fully engaged in their learning environment while keeping their bodies and minds active.
My Project
My students need a class set of 25 Scholastic News magazines to supplement our small group reading materials with real world stories that my third grade kids will enjoy. These magazines will engage my students at the small group table with non-fiction stories based on current events written for their age group. My hope is that these real world stories will excite my students' love for reading non-fiction. These magazines and stories will also help me to meet the comprehension needs of my students by using them to work on our weekly reading skills while using real authentic texts to inspire them to read and write more.
