This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My amazing classes are made up of 50 children who speak 15 different languages and represent a beautiful array of cultural diversity. Although the students share a classroom, attend the same school, and make up a portion of the students all receiving free lunch, their individual stories are very different and close to my heart.
My students are all students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE) students.
They have only been in the United States for a year or less and have limited or significant interruptions in their formal education history. They want to learn English, and they want to learn about American culture. This is evident in their persistent hard work, attendance, and the smiles that shine upon each of their faces.
My Project
My kiddos need to begin creating vocabulary and writing notebooks. They will use these spiral notebooks to write important information. The markers and scissors will be utilized to create visuals to represent newly learned words. I hope to use the Post-it charts to model good writing and reading skills and use the passages for extended comprehension activities.
Making language acquisition fun and engaging for these new English learners is very important to me!
We will use the interactive sound buzzers to play comprehension games after reading passages from a familiar story! Thank you so much for helping our classroom community!
