This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

New markers, crayons, pencils, and paper are essential for Newcomer middle school students for several reasons. To begin, these students are often adjusting to a new environments and may lack the necessary school supplies. Providing them with new art supplies not only ensures that they have the tools they need to express themselves creatively, but it also communicates to them that their educational experience is valued and supported. Art supplies can serve as a means to self-expression and communications, particularly for students who may be grappling with language barriers.

Art supplies play a crucial role in the cognitive and emotional development of middle school students.

Engaging in art activities such as drawing, coloring, and sketching can help students process their emotions, express themselves visually, and develop fine motor skills. For newcomer students, who may be experiencing cultural and linguistic adjustments, art can serve as a universal language through which they can communicate and connect with their peers and teachers.

Lastly, providing new art supplies to my newcomers demonstrates a commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming learning environment. By ensuring that all student have access to quality art materials, educators can foster a sense of belonging and support for students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Art can serve as a bridge between students, allowing them to start their unique experiences and perspectives through creative expression.
