Newcomers Learning English for the First Time!

Help me give my students the foundation of phonics and word recognition they need to increase their reading levels. I am requesting phonics journals, sight-word journals, and comprehension books

My Project

Students will receive extra help in small groups using the resources mentioned in the shopping list and resources will also be used to support practice at home. With these supports, newcomers will have an opportunity to not only learn English but also engage in their core subjects with a better understanding of English and the new school culture. These workbooks will provide my newcomer English Language Learners (ELLs) students with a set of skills that will help their acquire English language skills.

Newcomer students will have extra supports in their English Language development.

The materials will help them build confidence in word recognition as they decode words to help improve their reading fluency and reading comprehension. It is very important for students to have phonetic skills necessary to read at their proper grade level. Without these very foundational skills students will be kept at a further disadvantage, as it compares to functioning readers.
