This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

70% of incarcerated adults fall into the lowest two levels of reading proficiency. My 9th graders are coming to me reading at an Elementary school level. Let's prevent them from becoming another statistic!

Our students are traveling from all over the city, some have over an hour commute, to receive a quality education.

Coming from a public education system and community that constantly tells them they can't go to college, they are determined to prove them wrong.

My Project

Ender's Game is a classic novel about a adolescent male who is forced to make a controversial decision. Believing he is in a video game, he unknowingly makes a choice that changes the fate of the universe. My students will be comparing the book to debate real-world scenarios (war in the Middle East, Monitoring phone calls, etc). They will explore their personal beliefs to answer the relevant question, "Do the ends justify the means?".

We are a new school growing in population each year.

As we grow, we lack the necessary funds to ensure that each of our students can checkout a book to read. Simply reading in class isn't enough to assist our students with reaching proficient literacy levels. Our school needs enough books to provide our students the opportunity to practice and develop skills at home.
