My students need these special instruments to create new sound poems for children's music literature lessons, and drum sticks to start bucket drumming.
"Music enhances the education of our children by helping them to make connections and broadening the depth with which they think and feel. If we are to hope for a society of culturally literate people, music must be a vital part of our children's education." - Yo-Yo Ma (famous cellist)
500+ students from Kindergarten through 6th grade participate in their music class every three days.
My students are energetic and would greatly benefit from having new instruments in their music classroom.
My Project
This project will supply the music room with new instruments to be used by all of my students Kindergarten through Sixth grade. In the K-2 lessons, children's literature is heavily incorporated into the general music class. The students will creatively improvise arrangements, sound effects, and movement to go with each story. These instruments include a gong, vibraslap, ratchet, and other fun new sounds to make music with.
These new instruments will add to the growing collection in our general music classroom.
The drum sticks will be used for bucket drumming for the students 3-6. The students will use 3 gallon buckets as drums to learn how to play fun grooves as an ensemble. This will provide yet another fun unit of music study for my wonderfully musical students.
