We are a very diverse group of students who come from all walks of life. We serve a large population of underprivileged students who receive free and reduced-cost lunches and don’t let anything hold them back from achieving their goals.
We are a candidate school for the IB Middle Years Program and I am the coordinator.
This program reaches 600 students in grades 9 and 10. The program aims to prepare students for the real world and give them skills and knowledge to be able to succeed after high school.
My class is a language acquisition class that explores Spanish and works towards the IB and AP exams. We are currently expanding the IB program as we work to mold our students into globally competitive young adults.
With your help, we can build a classroom environment that helps them to grow their 21st-century skills and become ready for the real world.
At this point of the year we are noticing that students are without the necessities of class. Whether they have lost them over break, or accidentally threw them away we may never know, but the needs of class remain the same. Students use interactive notebooks to maintain notes and writing exercises and they keep handouts in a folder. These are basic needs that we need help to address. Our small classroom printer is used to print out student work and images that simply cannot be seen clearly with the black and white copies that are available in the building. Overall, these materials help to maintain order and organization through lessons and allow students to learn a language in a strategic way.
