At the end of this school year, I was not sad because I didn't have to say goodbye to my amazing 4th-grade class. I was given the opportunity to loop up to 5th grade with my same class, and I gladly accepted! My students were all very excited about this big announcement but they did have one question "How will our classroom look next year?"
This past year my crew became such a close classroom family, and I want to keep that same community going strong this upcoming year, but I also wanted to have a chance to add something "new" to our classroom.
With this thought in mind, I am endeavoring to create a STEM area in our classroom! The vision for this would be that instead of morning work being on their desk each morning the students would unpack their belongings and then grab a bin, and find a spot to explore their imagination. In these large collapsible storage bins would be hands-on items like magnetic building blocks, brain flakes, games, or even sensory sequence fabric to doodle on. I want to make this exploration a part of our daily schedule and the timer will ensure that we dedicate the first part of our day every day. The lights will be used to help set the tone and create an environment for their imagination to grow, as well as being used as a visual. These push lights will set voice levels for activities.
I will introduce this STEM center to the class with the book “Our Class is a Family”. I want my student to know that in our classroom we are a family. Having these items would help give the students a chance to create and invent, but more importantly, a time to connect with each!
