Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are “high maintenance” kids who have endless energy and just about the same amount of behavioral and learning difficulties in our self-contained classroom for the multiply disabled. By keeping them active during whole group lessons, Independent activities, journeys through Centers, and the ability to monitor their grades in an attempt to ease them into becoming successful learners who are in control of their individual learning styles, I can replace the fear of learning into the joy of learning. My goal is to keep them engaged throughout their lessons while always searching for alternatives to meet their needs and encourage the independence to accommodate and modify their own way to succeed.
My Project
It’s amazing how many times teachers need to refresh basic supplies throughout the school year! The amount of paper, index cards, markers, pens, etc. that middle school students use seems endless yet necessary. Many of our lessons and activities require those basic supplies because they are used daily and often. Since my students each have different learning styles, I am always trying to meet those styles with individualized activity planning: index cards for vocabulary words and math facts, composition paper for writing, watercolors and brushes across the curriculum, thumb drive portfolios, and composition books for journaling are only a few of the ways we use our supplies daily.
