Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 1st grade at an amazing Title I school in Pasadena, Texas. My students are just the best! They are sweet, thoughtful, and kind. My students come from diverse backgrounds and they learn from each other everyday. The educational needs of my classroom vary with each student. Some are reading well above grade level, while others are diligently working on mastering letter recognition. Despite our differences, we have created a classroom family that supports each other and celebrates individual victories.
Above all, my students are resilient.
Many of my students come from a low socioeconomic backgrounds and inconsistent family situations. In addition, they are still recovering from the utter devastation of Hurricane Harvey. Our community was deeply affected by the storm. The majority of our families suffered from displacement due to severe flooding. Many students are still living in temporary housing, staying with family or friends, or living in a home under construction. I try my best to create a warm and welcoming classroom environment for my students because they deserve nothing less.
My Project
Help me create a fun and inviting classroom for my new class of awesome first-graders! Every year I make several trips and spend a couple hundred dollars at local teacher and craft stores getting my classroom ready for my new friends. I thought I would get a head start this year with a little help,
I love the look of excitement on my students face when they enter their new classroom for the first time.
I spend days trying to get it just right! I believe that the classroom should be a child's second home. They should feel safe and happy. Please consider donating to my future students.
