My students need blank hard cover books to create their first writing of the year and basic supplies to begin the new school year such as pencils, notebooks, and glue.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember your first day of First Grade? It is an exciting time and the beginning of a new part of my students' lives.
My students are hard workers living in an urban area in Maryland.
Most live in poverty. They are all beginning readers and writers excited about learning but many come to school without any materials, not even a pencil. I would like to ensure that all of my students receive the supplies they need to succeed in the classroom.
My Project
I love to have students create their first writing of the year in a blank hard cover book. Creating these books allows my students to write and illustrate their own book and makes writing enjoyable from the start. I am asking for a hardcover book for each of my students as well as pencils, erasers, crayons, markers, and glue for everyday use in all subject areas. In addition to those basic supplies I am requesting index cards so that students may have a spelling/vocabulary word bank at their seats throughout the day.
No matter how excited children may be about learning they need the right supplies in order to succeed in the classroom.
With the current economic crisis and budget cuts it is difficult to ensure all my students have what they need daily. You can help my students be well prepared for learning every day!
