Students need the necessary tools to begin the year off right for the school year. My students will be able to fill in the gaps with the resources I have asked for below. I am very excited about the school year and can't wait to see my students grow!
My classroom struggles with the basic skills of math fluency, which interferes with their math comprehension in 6th grade.
My students are in 6th grade and go to a Title I school. Many of them are at least 3 years behind grade level, which leads to many behavioral issues because they struggle to understand the foundations of math, so they become frustrated during the lesson. Many of my students are eager and are excited to grow but lack the resources to bring them to grade level. Even pencils and paper are difficult to afford for many of these students, so I tend to pay for most of the supplies used in class. The entire school is 100% free lunch, and most of the families come from inner-city backgrounds.
My Project
Some of the materials that would help tremendously in my classroom are the dry erase boards and markers, the test prep books, pocket slips, and math manipulatives. The math test prep books would be used close to every day during the 4th quarter to bump up my students' fluency speed; so fractions, division, and algebraic expressions will become more natural for them to solve.
The dry erase boards and markers would be perfect during my guided practice, so I can give instant feedback to students struggling in the classroom. This will help determine which small groups I need to pull for extra instruction. The reusable pocket slips will be a great addition to small group instruction. This will cut down on paper copies and provide a fun way for students to show their work when they practice math. My students will have the necessary tools and resources to become better mathematicians with donations given to the classroom.
These resources will change the way my students participate in class.
This will help fill any missing gaps, and students will feel more confident to participate in the classroom. With your help, students will be able to experience a fun and successful way of learning!
