My students need dry erase markers and an easel to practice their writing. They need glue for their phonics stations and paper for writing and book creation. My students need shirts for a culminating project!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the most amazing class of first graders, and I feel privileged to teach them each day. My students come to school each morning full of energy, questions, and wonder. We spend our days reading, writing, and problem solving together.
In our Title I, inner-city school, there is a great amount of joy that comes from having classroom supplies to choose from.
The problem comes from the fact that we have little funding, and a severe lack of supplies. My students deserve to have basic school supplies so they can feel pride in their work.
My Project
I strive to give my students all the materials necessary to try to read and write and calculate by themselves. To ensure my students have maximum access to text I try my hardest to use leveled text. These leveled texts are allowed to be photo copied and reproduced, so every student has a book in their hand during lessons. During center times and phonics lessons, I allow children to practice their writing by using white boards and markers. Having an easel in the classroom will provide my students who need more physical movement, a greater surface area to work on! We need basic supplies in our classroom to ensure my students are provided with multiply ways to mastery!
