My Students
For the last two years, I've been teaching music here in Memphis, TN. I have had the opportunity to teach both elementary and high school students at a total of three schools. Each one has helped me develop both as an educator and as a person. These particular schools were schools that were academically behind to the point where my work was literally underappreciated and frustrating beyond the usual.
This coming school year I have been granted the opportunity to teach music to grades 3-5 at a charter school.
The staff has been very welcoming to me and they are excited to see the work that I can do. I want to make sure that I have what I need to make the difference that the community deserves.
My Project
As a music teacher, my mission is to create a space where students can learn and be creative. There have been so many times where I have spent countless hours (and money) creating my own resources from scratch due to a lack of funding or the abusive neglect of past administrations.
Creativity should NEVER be stifled because of a lack of materials.
These materials will not only contribute to the climate and culture of my classroom, but also towards our music productions, community projects, and other school events on and off campus. Our school thrives on the concept of working together with the community to create a village that fosters success all day, every day. I would use these supplies to ensure the students' success and my contribution to this cause.
