Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My little primary class is made up a unique group of students with special needs. Despite each student having their own likes and dislikes, books seem to be a common interest. I try to read at least one book a day with my students, per their request!
Read aloud books are one of the best ways to engage students in learning a wide range of topics.
Bright illustrations, fun stories, and lessons to be learned are all things a good read aloud can include! It is important to have a mix of books for students to explore as a class and on their own. Watching the students get excited about what will happen next in a story is a sight to see. Many of my students love rereading the books we've read together as a class, even if they can't read just yet.
Books are especially important in my classroom as they provide visual representations of the topics we discuss. At the beginning of the year when we review kindness and trying our best, it is fun to read stories about characters that address these topics. I hope to revamp our library monthly so that there is always something new and exciting to read.
