I teach two classes of 4th grade Language Arts in a Title One school. My students are very diverse learners that come from a wide socioeconomic background. Being close to Washington D.C., my classroom is filled with students from low income homes, commuting professionals, and military families. Students come to school each day eager to learn, with positive attitudes, even when their home lives can be less than ideal.
My goal every year is to instill a life-long love of reading to all of my students.
Each year I spend time reading over newly released children's novels in anticipation over what new books my students will pick up and not want to put down. I spend time talking with students about books, and their likes and dislikes. I browse different genres (even the graphic novels!) in hopes that I will find something that every student will love to read at some point during the school year.
This project will help to continue to build our ever-growing classroom library, in hope that every one of my fourth graders is able to find that one book that turns them into a life-long reader!
My Project
Help me add new titles and best sellers to our classroom library! I am constantly selecting new books to add to our classroom library based on my current student levels and interests.
The books in this project will help students to develop a love of reading, while exploring a variety of interests and genres.
Students will continue to build their writing skills and vocabulary through a variety of text experiences. They will be able to have daily access to some of the newest and best titles on the shelves.
My students would love to start the second half of the school year with additional reading choices in our library!
