This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are in a Title I setting. They have many of the same challenges as students around the country, but also have to deal with outside issues that I know I didn't even know about when I was their age.
They need access to tools to broaden their horizons and expand their knowledge of the world beyond their neighborhoods.
There is a lot of potential in my students, but they need to see what the rest of the world has to offer so they can reach for it.
My Project
My students love getting new books! This is also true of older books, but new copies. Many of the books in our library have been well loved and need to be replaced. We are also missing many award winning books. Students are learning about the Newberry, Caldecott, and other book awards and are looking to have those books available to check out and read.
I am looking to add more books to my collection that are award winners and some that are favorites of students at other schools.
Anything I can do to encourage them to read more and different things, I'm willing to do!
