As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I see that my students face several difficult challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite this, they still show up every day and do their very best in their efforts to graduate and succeed past high school. Several of my students and their families cannot afford the school supplies they need to be successful.
My students are responsible, very hardworking, and incredibly passionate.
Many of them are being raised in single-parent households or living with alternative family members and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from receiving resources and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as typical. While I may not be able to control their home lives, I can certainly help shape their experience during the school day and how they view their future. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire them to be world changers by helping them with resources in order to achieve their future goals.
My Project
This school year was off to a rocky start with the new challenges of virtual learning and teaching. This project will be a boost in the right direction with materials to help with the virtual side of teaching and face to face teaching.
My students come from low-income families who are unable to afford basic classroom materials.
In spite of their monetary roadblocks, they come to school every day with a passion to succeed academically. They are eager to learn and have set high goals for themselves. College is the number one goal for my students. They appreciative of what we have in the classroom, and meet each day with a positive attitude. With Covid-19 being our newest challenge in education, it is my number one priority to give my students all the materials needed. Whether we are in school or virtually learning at home, I want my students to be equipped with the tool for success.
