This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My Students: I'm an elementary school teacher in New York. The school is labeled a title one school, and I'm teaching third grade for the first time. Ninety-eight percent of the students get reduced-free lunch. I work in a underprivileged African-American and Hispanic neighborhood
In third grade, the children have so many books and materials that its impossible to put in their desk.
But with these seat pockets the children can store some of their supplies and book behind their chair. These seat pockets will also help students organize themselves and keep their supplies neatly.
My Project
I spend about $1000 each year out of pocket money to make sure my children have the best education possible. The supplies in my school are very scarce. I feel we need more supplies in order to keep our children coming to school, to want more. A love of reading and books begins when we are read to as young children. These seat pockets will help students store their books easily.
Third Grade is the first testing grade, so they need a lot of materials to help them excel on the state exam.
I think it would be great for the children to have an assortment of new reading and fluency resources in the classroom and have a place to store them. You will make it possible for my students to achieve the highest level possible by donating these seat pockets to improve their organization skills.
